The story behind the name… I’ve lived abutting the Shaven Crown Conservation area for the past 15 years. It’s historic farm land, now overgrown with a perfectly glorious stand of trees, and is one of my most treasured places to escape to, particularly while we have been under stay-at-home orders.
I discovered soap making in an attempt to bring chemistry to my children in the early days of lockdown, and found myself thinking of women, generations ago, stirring great pots of tallow or lard with wood ash (“some lye”). I am so grateful for our modern understanding of science, but treasure the connection to the past, to the women who have withstood challenges and tribulations such as we find our selves living through now.
Soaps and Lotions for your whole family.
Our family uses every product you’ll find here. I use quality oils and butters, and create each batch with painstaking care.
Bar soaps are an easy way to reduce your disposable footprint, and all of our packaging material is reusable, or recyclable.
Lotion jars and tins can be reused in your home, or returned to me for custom refills!
For those with sensitive skin, you are in good company in my house! We test our soaps and lotions on skin that often reacts to commercial products, and have been thrilled with how happy and healthy these small-batch products leave our skin.
